What a Custom 3D Sculpture Art Toy Actually Is?
A custom 3D sculpture art toy sits between three categories that are usually handled by three different suppliers: a sculpted art object, a designer collectible with an edition size, and a manufactured product with a mold, a certification file and a carton. On this line the sculpt comes first and everything else is derived from it. The silhouette, the gesture line, the negative space between an arm and the torso, and the way the piece reads from three meters away are decisions we take deliberately, on paper, before the first polygon moves.
The reason sculpture-first matters is that most art toy projects fail at the join between art and tooling. A sculpt that reads beautifully as a render can be unmoldable, or lose its edge crispness when the parting line crosses a face plane, or shrink out of proportion between the master and the production piece. We close that gap with two disciplines: matte gray review gates, where form is judged without color, and molding engineering, where parting lines, draft, undercuts, wall thickness and shrinkage are resolved on the digital sculpt before any master is cut.

Care & Maintenance
- Keep the piece out of direct sunlight and away from window glass: UV shifts resin toward amber and yellows light vinyl over a few summers.
- Dust with a soft dry brush or a microfiber cloth. Never use alcohol, acetone, glass cleaner or kitchen spray on a matte or hand-brushed finish - it dulls or dissolves it.
- Zones finished with dry-brush weathering or pastel shading should not be rubbed, wiped or immersed in water.
- Lift the sculpture by the body or the base, never by horns, ears, hair strands, fingers or props. Those features are strong in compression and weak in bending.
- Seat the base peg fully and do not twist it once seated. A part-seated peg is the most common cause of a piece that leans after shipping.
- Keep magnetic bases away from bank cards, mechanical watches and hard drives on the same shelf.
- Store and display below 40 °C. Resin and vinyl both soften near 60 °C, so an attic, a car trunk or a heat lamp above the shelf is a real risk, not a theoretical one.
- Use a small amount of museum putty under the base on open shelves, and keep the piece away from table edges and doorways.
- Keep the original box and its die-cut cradle. It is the only container shaped so that thin features do not carry load, and it is what makes resale and moving safe.
- Wrap thin parts in acid-free tissue before boxing, not directly in bubble wrap, which can leave marks on a matte surface under pressure.

Can you sculpt from 2D artwork or an existing 3D file?
Yes. We accept ZTL, OBJ, STL and STEP files, orthographic turnaround concept art, and even a physical maquette that we 3D scan on site. If you send a single illustrated view we do the 2D-to-3D translation ourselves and list every interpretation we made in writing, so nothing is decided silently on your behalf.

Why do you review the sculpt in matte gray instead of color?
Because color hides form errors. A saturated paint job can hide a broken silhouette line, a collapsed negative space or a weak gesture, and by the time the piece is painted those problems are already in the tool. Matte gray shows only the form, so a wrong plane is caught while it still costs a sculpt edit instead of a new mold.

How much fine detail can you hold in resin versus PVC?
Cold-cast polyurethane resin reproduces 0.2-0.3 mm engraved features reliably, while rigid PVC injection holds about 0.5 mm. If your sculpt depends on 0.3 mm line work and the budget points at PVC, we tell you at the molding-engineering stage and either thicken the detail to 0.6 mm with your approval or move the piece to the resin route.

How do you keep the final piece the same size as the approved sculpt?
We compensate shrinkage in the master instead of asking you to re-sculpt. Cold-cast resin shrinks 0.3-0.6%, rotocast vinyl 1-2%, and rigid PVC 1.5-2.5%. Every first article ships with a dimensional report and holds the approved dimensions to within 0.5 mm or 1%, whichever is greater.

Can the sculpture have articulation or interchangeable parts?
Interchangeable parts, yes. Full articulation, we usually advise against at this scale. At 5-10 in, a 3-5 mm ball joint removes the detail mass the sculpt depends on and adds a failure point in transit. Most designer pieces do better with a fixed sculpt plus magnetic or peg-swap accessories - hands, heads, props - that read as sculpture when seated and still give the collector a second configuration.
