What is a custom 3D printed mini PVC art toy?
A custom 3D printed mini PVC art toy is a designer-toy-grade collectible in the 50-100 mm band that we prototype on an SLA 3D-printed master and then produce in rigid PVC injection. The 3D-printed master lets us lock the face expression, mask texture, tattoo linework and any small accessory in fine detail at this scale, and the PVC production shell then carries the saturated Pantone color, the pad-print face and the optional accessories at shelf-economics.
The mini part is the deliberate choice: smaller figures mean cheaper tooling per piece, faster color decisions and a denser shelf presence for designer drops and blind-box programs. Most mini art toys are static (no ball joints, no internal skeleton) because joint hardware at this scale does not survive shipping — accessories swap by a 3 mm ABS peg, not by articulated joints.

Custom design process
- Brief and reference lock. Send 2D reference (sketch, finished character art, fabric swatch if any), Pantone or hex color list, scale band (50-70 / 80-100 / 110-130 mm), and packaging tier (single window, blind-box 4-pack, kraft mailer). We sign NDA and name a project engineer if it is a licensed drop.
- 3D sculpt and pose lock. We model the figure in ZBrush at full target size with the static pose agreed. For blind-box 4-packs we sculpt all four designs in parallel so the master sample ships all four together.
- SLA master print and color sample. SLA at 25-50 micron XY, hand-finish, hand-paint, pad-print face, run a 1.2 m drop test in a prototype window box. We hit 7 working days on the standard 80-100 mm scale; smaller sizes can land in 5-6 days.
- Color and packaging sign-off. You sign the painted master and the prototype window box (or 4-pack mockup). At this point any color, line or accessory change is still cheap to make.
- Mold and mass production. Steel mold, PVC injection, deflash, pad-print, accessory assembly. Tooling plus production preparation takes 35-42 days.
- Finishing and ship. Window-box pack, blind-box master pack if applicable, Q-C, sea or air freight. Finishing plus assembly takes 14-22 days; full cycle is 54-75 days end to end.

How small is 'mini' and how do I pick the right size?
Our mini band runs from 30 mm pocket up to 130 mm studio mini. Three standard stops: 50-70 mm pocket mini (single window box, sits in the hand), 80-100 mm standard mini (the most common blind-box size), and 110-130 mm studio mini (a hero shelf piece). Pick by use: 50-70 mm for blind-box 4-packs and gift-with-purchase, 80-100 mm for designer drops and standard retail, 110-130 mm when the line has a hero character that needs a slightly larger head and prop detail. We do not recommend going below 30 mm at this material system — pad-print registration starts to fight you at sub-30 mm faces.

How do you print tiny details like tattoos, logos and small text on a 50-100 mm figure?
Below about 12 mm we leave spray-mask behind and go straight to pad-print. Pad-print holds registration to about 0.1 mm on a clean surface and survives the matte finish we use on most mini builds. For the smallest text (under 1.2 mm cap height) we print onto a PVC sticker patch and pad-transfer the whole patch in one piece, which keeps the type legible. Mask texture, fabric pattern and large color blocks still use spray-mask when the area exceeds 12 mm — that is the threshold where spray-mask starts to win on cost.

Can you handle limited-edition artist drops with serial numbering?
Yes. For limited drops we number each figure on a certificate card sealed inside the window box, on the base of the figure in 1-1.5 mm pad-printed type, and on the outside of the master carton. We can also handle artist signature cards (signed by the artist before ship), tamper-evident seals and randomized card art for chase/secret ratios. Master files are kept for 36 months so you can run a second drop with the same tool, or fix any tooling issue without re-cutting.

Why SLA 3D printing for the master, not CNC or SLS?
SLA gives the smoothest face surface at 25-50 micron XY resolution, which is what you need for pad-print registration and crisp mask trim. CNC is excellent for hard tooling but reads visible cutter paths on small features and is slow to iterate. SLS (nylon) prints have a granular surface that hides pad-print fine line. SLA is also fast: a painted 80-100 mm master prints and cures inside one working day, leaving 5-6 days for finishing and a color sample proof. That is why we hit the 7 working day prototype target consistently on the SLA path.

Why don't mini PVC art toys have ball joints like 6-inch figures?
At 50-100 mm the joint hardware gets too small to survive shipping and use, and the tooling cost per piece does not support an internal skeleton. Mini art toys are designed as static display pieces: a single pose, a clean silhouette and crisp accessory geometry read better at this scale than visible ball joints. If your design really needs pose change, we add a 3 mm ABS peg receiver in the body and ship the accessory as a separate cap (mask, hat, prop), which lets you swap without a fragile joint — this is the standard compromise used by most designer-toy drops.
