The "Animal Uprising" Sparked by a Coffee Cup
Designer Jack’s desk was always cluttered with plastic animal samples from clients—until one day, he accidentally knocked over his coffee mug. The brown liquid splashed onto a cute duck plastic figurine, leaving uneven stains that made it look like it was "rolling in a mud pit." The team had an epiphany: "Why not make these plastic figurines come alive more realistically?" We decided to create a set of mischievous cartoon animal toys: durable plastic figurines built to withstand drops, but with designs that broke the mold. Jack sketched hundreds of drafts—like a "runaway duck" plastic figurine with one leg kicking back and paws flailing, a "proud cat" with its tail held high, and a "silly dog" forever chasing its own tail. During production, we tested three types of plastic formulas to perfect the joint flexibility, finally settling on a medium-hard resin base that even lets the paws grip small twigs. These lively little plastic figurines have become the office center of attention: kids jump in to invent adventure stories for them—like the “runaway duck” charging into the mud to save the “proud cat”—and the room erupts in laughter. Meanwhile, adults secretly snap photos of their goofy poses, such as the “silly dog” spinning in circles chasing its tail or the “cool cat” arching its back like it owns the place, then post them online with captions like “My new, weird roommate.” Who says a plastic figurine has to stand still? We want every cartoon animal toy to feel like it has a personality and a story, ready to “perform” right there on the shelf.
