The Chrome Drip Überjanky Creation Story
It all started with a wild idea scribbled on a napkin at a Los Angeles diner. Superplastic's lead designer Janky, nursing his third coffee, sketched a rough concept: "What if we melted a rainbow into liquid metal?" Little did he know, this simple doodle would become the most ambitious project in the studio's history.
The team began with custom 3D model prototypes, but the real magic happened when they discovered their chrome application technique by accident. "We were experimenting with vacuum metalizing," engineer Guggimon recalls, "when a power surge caused our machine to spark. The resulting drip pattern looked so cool we decided to make it intentional!" This happy accident became the signature "chrome drip" effect that would define the entire collection.
The painting process became an all-night obsession. "We developed a secret 7-layer technique," lead painter Maria explains:
Each designer vinyl art figure required:
✓ 36 hours of painting time
✓ 12 quality control checks
✓ Special temperature-controlled drying
The final hurdle came when they discovered the rainbow pigments reacted strangely with the chrome under certain lights. "We had to rebuild our entire studio lighting system," Guggimon laughs. "It was like tuning a guitar - one string out of place and the whole thing sounded wrong."
The result? A custom 3D modeled vinyl figure toy that:
✅ Features 14 distinct color transitions
✅ Changes hues under different lighting
✅ Maintains perfect chrome integrity
✅ Pushes the boundaries of art toy design
"When we unveiled it at Toy Fair," Janky remembers, "a collector offered us $5,000 on the spot. That's when we knew we'd created something special." Today, each figure comes with a certificate detailing its unique drip pattern - no two are exactly alike.

Electroplating Figure
Electroplating coats plastic toy figures (like action figures, model car parts, or collectibles) with a thin, durable layer of real metal (such as chrome, gold, or nickel). An electrical current is passed through the figure, immersed in a solution containing dissolved metal ions, causing the metal to deposit evenly onto its surface. This gives the toys a shiny, metallic finish, enhances their realism, increases durability, and provides corrosion resistance.
