    What "Low MOQ" Actually Contains?

A custom vinyl figure at low MOQ is not a smaller version of a big order. It is the same figure passing through three separate production systems, each of which has its own floor: the mold, the casting batch, and the decoration setup. A supplier quoting "MOQ 100" has usually only checked the first one.

This page exists because the third floor is where small orders fail. Casting 100 hollow vinyl bodies is routine for us. Decorating those 100 bodies as four separate colorways is a different job, with four separate setup costs, and it is priced very differently from one colorway of 100.

Material Comparison: What Each Material's Real Minimum Is

MaterialReal minimum hereWhy that minimumWhat it costs you later
⭐ Rotocast vinyl (hollow)100 pcsAluminum tooling at this scale amortizes inside one drop; batch casting needs no machine dedicationThin walls need vent discipline; very small runs leave little room to absorb a re-pull
Solid cast vinyl100 pcsSame tooling economics, simpler fillHeavier, more material per piece — freight and unit cost rise on larger figures
Two-tone in-mold vinyl150-200 pcsA second color charge and a second pour sequence per figureColor boundary is fixed by the mold — no later colorway pivot
Clear / translucent vinyl100 pcs, +3-7 daysColor trials run before production castingYellows under UV; visible weld lines demand vent tuning
PVC injection moldedNot viable under ~500Steel tooling cost cannot be divided into a 100-piece order at any sane unit priceCheap per unit at volume — the wrong tool for a market test
Resin cast (silicone molds)30 pcsSilicone tooling is cheap but has a limited pull lifeHigher per-unit cost; short mold life means edition size is capped by tooling

Decoration Setup: The Eight Artifacts That Decide If a Small Order Is Feasible

Finishing Route Selection: Five Ways to Decorate 100 Bodies

Splitting 100 Pieces: What Actually Happens to Unit Cost

    SplitCastingDecoration setupUnit cost effect
1 x 100, one colorwayOne run, one chargeOne mask set or plate setBaseline — the lowest unit cost at this quantity
2 x 50, two colorwaysOne run, two color chargesTwo setupsRises by roughly one extra setup spread over 100 units
4 x 25, four colorwaysFour small charges — batch floor gets tightFour setupsRises sharply; four setups cannot hide inside 100 units
1 x 100 + 2 x 25 extraRuns mergeTwo extra setupsUsually the smartest structure for a drop with chase variants
The pattern is consistent: quantity is not the expensive part at low MOQ — variance is. Buying 150 pieces of one colorway is often cheaper per unit than 100 pieces split four ways.

    Production Process & Timeline

The production cycle of this custom toy is about 2-3 months. The process is divided into 3 core stages, with the steps and timeframes for each stage as follows:
    1. Pre-design & Sampling Stage

      Including 2D design, 3D modeling, 3D printed sample, and colorful prototype production, taking 5-11 days in total;
    2. Mold & Mass Production Preparation Stage

      Including mold solution finalization, mold making, and mass production, taking 35-42 days in total;
    3. Post-processing & Delivery Stage

Including color painting, assembling, Q-C (quality control), packaging, and delivery, taking 14-22 days in total.

    FAQ

    1
We want 100 pieces but split into two colorways. Is that possible?
Yes, and it is one of the most common structures we build. The casting side is unaffected — 100 bodies in two color charges. What changes is decoration: two colorways means two setups if the graphic zones differ. If the two versions differ only in body color and share the same print, you pay one setup and it stays affordable. If each has its own masks and plates, that second setup is a real cost that has to sit inside 100 units. Send both variants together and we will quote the split honestly instead of discovering it at invoice.
    2
Which part of a small order is actually expensive?
Not the casting, and not the plastic. It is the one-time artifacts: the mold, the mask sets, the print plates, the screens. Those are physical things that must be made before the first piece exists, and they cost the same whether you order 100 or 1,000. That is why a low MOQ price always looks high per unit — you are paying for setup per piece at a small denominator. Our quotations separate one-time costs from per-unit costs precisely so you can see which part of the number is the denominator.
    3
Should we pad print or hand paint our first run?
At 100 pieces, pad print usually wins on cost and consistency — one plate per color per position, crisp edges, repeatable across the run. Hand paint wins when the design needs something a plate cannot do: washes, dry-brush texture, soft transitions on eyes or teeth. Many of our best small-batch figures use both — pad print for logos and eye shapes, hand paint for the character detail.
    4
Can we start with 50 pieces instead of 100?
On a first order with a new sculpt and new tooling, we do not recommend it — the aluminum mold cost divided by 50 produces a unit price that most buyers reject once they see it, and it leaves no margin to absorb a re-pull if the first batch needs tuning. If 50 pieces is a hard constraint, the better route is resin casting with silicone tooling, which has a lower tooling floor, at a higher unit cost and a shorter mold life. We would rather point you at the process that fits than sell you the wrong one.
    5
Can we do a blind-box style series at low MOQ?
Yes, but the series structure needs planning rather than retrofitting. A blind-box lineup is several SKUs sharing one mold family and one packaging system, with a defined assortment ratio per carton. At low volume the constraint is not the casting — it is that each variant carries its own decoration setup and its own share of testing. A four-character series at 100 pieces total is usually not viable; the same four characters at 100 pieces each is a normal program. We will model the ratio math with you before you commit to the lineup.
