A custom 1:18 scale half-anatomy PVC figurine is a small collectible (95-110 mm humanoid height) that we sculpt as one continuous character on one side and a stylized exposed skeleton on the other, joined on a clean sagittal split plane. The outer shell is rigid PVC; the inner skeleton is ABS in standard runs and articulated in premium tiers.
The 1:18 scale is the same platform used by Hot Toys 1:18 dioramas, G.I. Joe vehicles and Mini GT 1:18 cars, so the figure stands naturally on licensed diorama bases, sits on a collectible shelf next to model cars, and reads as a real scale-mate in product photography. The half-anatomy reveal turns what would otherwise be a 4-inch generic figure into a shelf piece that can carry an IP's brand story.

| Rigid PVC ★ recommended | Outer shell — both character and cutaway halves | Matte or semi-gloss, light, slightly warm to the touch | Standard 1:18 anime collectibles and IP lines | Medium — great for face pad-print and anime-style line5work | 100 pcs | $3.80 - $9.00 |
| ABS (internal skeleton) | Ball-joint skeleton, peg system, hidden clips | Hard, slightly cool, snap-fit feel | Every cutaway figure — the skeleton has to take the impact | Hidden inside; must survive 1.2 m drop test | Tooled with the shell | + $0.40 - $1.10 vs PVC-only |
| Cast polyresin (anatomical detail parts) | Skullcap, pelvis, scapulae inserts where ABS cannot hit detail | Heavier, cooler, slightly more brittle | Premium 1:12 and 1:8 hero pieces with richer anatomy | Highest — fine osteology landmarks | 200 pcs typically | $6.50 - $18.00 (resin-heavy) |
| Polypropylene (PP) (joint pivots) | Stress-flex washers and pegs in articulated premium tiers | Waxy, flexible, low friction | Articulated shoulder, hip and neck pivots | Functional only — never visible | Tooled with the skeleton | + $0.20 - $0.50 per joint |
| Soft vinyl (alternative shell) | Full-wrap non-anatomical body if you do not need the cutaway | Soft, squeezable, slight tooth | sofubi-style lines where anatomy reveal is not the point | Lower — softer edges, less fine line | 100 pcs | $3.20 - $7.50 |
| Process step | What we do | What it produces | When to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. IP brief and reference locking | Two-party NDA, color reference, animation/model sheets, license documentation | Signed design brief with character and anatomy targets | Always — required for licensed IP work |
| 2. Sagittal split-plane design (cutaway only) | Engineer the cut plane through skull, spine, pelvis and limb centers with chamfered edges | A single clean cut plane with no parting line on display side | Half-anatomy figures only — not used in full-body art toys |
| 3. Character-side 3D sculpt | Match IP-approved silhouette, face, hair, costume in ZBrush | Character-side half model ready for IP sign-off | Always |
| 4. Skeletal-side 3D sculpt (cutaway only) | Build cranium plates, 12-rib ribcage, 24-segment spine, pelvis, scapulae and limb long bones | Stylized anatomical side ready for anatomical review | Half-anatomy figures only |
| 5. ABS skeleton CAD | Ball-joint sizing, peg-and-clip assembly, accessory receivers | Skeletal sub-assembly that the two PVC halves close around | Always — drives both articulated and fixed tiers |
| 6. 3D-printed master + color sample | SLA master, full hand-paint sample, drop-tested packaging prototype | Single painted master delivered with a 1.2 m drop-test report | Always, before tool cut — 7 working day rush available |
| 7. PVC injection tooling (shell halves) | Two steel molds, polished to A-2 for pad-print face, textured or satin for body | Two character/cutaway shell halves per design | Always at production; skipped for prototype-only runs |
| 8. Hand-paint and QC | Pad-print face, hand-paint skeleton wash and metal dry-brush, two-piece visual QC | A two-side painted figure with character colors on one side and anatomical illustration on the other | Always for this build — the cutaway side carries the value |
| 9. Window-box packaging | EVA half-cut cradle that protects the cut plane, art-printed insert, optional certificate | Collector-grade box sized to 1:18 standard window or your large variant | Always — the cut plane is the most fragile feature and the box has to protect it |
